Trying Transport - 14 Scania semi's
Scania Trucks & Trailers Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne Run. Savings on Maintenance &
downtime "Trying Transport" Warwick, Qld
Max Buchner had a fleet of 14 Scania trucks with 18 trailers. They did approximately
250,000 klms per year between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
ROIL was first trialed in August 1996. It was used in the transmissions, diffs and
gearboxes. Over a three year period Max noticed many benefits. He also noticed
the free running of the tight Scania gearbox, which is a typical problem in this model
Scania.
Oil Cooled Hubs:
The wheel bearings in the
oil cooled hubs, even after 250,000 klms, still looked like new. Also Max found the
seals didn't leak. This is most likely because Roil reduces friction and keeps the
oil in the bearings cooler, thereby reducing wear and tear. The diffs also ran 10-15
degrees cooler.
This meant Max was able to save money because of less maintenance and down time.
Editorial Note: In 1999 after 20 years in the trucking business Max decided to sell
his truck fleet and pursue his farming interests. I wish him well in his new
endeavour.
